TASFA Help

For FAFSA

Non-eligible Students***

(Texas Application for State Financial Aid)

To receive most types of financial aid—including state, and institutional grants, loans, and work-study eligibility—you must complete an application. The Texas Application for State Financial Aid is ONLY available to students who CANNOT  meet the application requirements of the FAFSA, but are considered residents of Texas. (The law that allows non-U.S. citizens to pay in-state tuition rates and receive state financial aid is House Bill 1403. Often, students who are able to submit the TASFA are referred to as HB1403 students.) If you are not sure if you are eligible to submit the TASFA, visit the College for all Texans website for more information.

Deadlines

The TASFA application is generally available to download sometime in February for the following school year and must be submitted to the University each year. The priority deadline that UHD would like for students to meet is March 15.  Meeting the priority deadline gives you the best chance at being eligible for grant funding that is available on a first come, first served basis. If you do not meet the March 15 deadline, you can still submit the application at any time throughout the school year.

How to File

The TASFA is a paper application and must be printed, filled out, signed, and submitted to the University. Students must also submit the Institutional Verification Form and completed tax return documents with the TASFA application in order for the application to be considered complete.  Documents will be accepted by mail, fax, email, or in person at the financial aid office.
